My Mac Air won't update because of Epic Games Launcher!!!

Like the title says, I can't update my Macbook because the app won't close. This is a really big problem because if I can't update my computer and new updates keep rolling out, eventually my computer version is going to be extremely old and my Mac might even stop working...

I have tried searching on the internet ways to work but all of them either didn't work, didn't help, or said you needed to buy something. Could someone please help me? It would save my 1,500+ NEW Computer, thank you so much if you do!

I provided an embedded link to the Safe Mode instructions in my last post, it is the "Safe Mode" text highlighted in blue. I'll repost the link here:

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

FYI, technically you do have third party software installed....the Epic Games Launcher, but I'm assuming you mean the other unneeded & troublesome apps. You can run EtreCheck and post the report here which will give us an idea of your system's configuration and third party apps which automatically launch during boot & login as they are the ones which are most likely to cause a problem....I'm guessing the Epic Games Launcher is one of those apps which is always running in the background.

Have you tried quitting the Epic Games Launcher manually? Some apps may need to be manually terminated, or at least not have certain areas of the app being accessed.

You can try Force Quitting the Epic Games Launcher.

You can try booting into Safe Mode to see if you can perform the updates.

I would not expect the Epic Games Launcher to have this issue, so you may have some other third party software installed which it interfering with the normal operation of macOS and the Epic Games Launcher. Anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software are known to cause all sorts of issues, so if you are using these types of apps, it is highly recommended you uninstall them by following the developer's instructions.

I already tried force quitting the Epic Games Launcher, but it doesn't work. It just stays open and doesn't go away. How do I put my Mac into Safe Mode? I'd really like to try it. I don't have a 3rd Party Software installed, so that can't be the problem. But thanks for the info, and please tell me how to put my computer into safe mode!

Thanks for your time and all of the helpful information. I'll click on the link that you sent once I get a chance, and I will also tell you if it worked or not. You were correct about having the Epic games launcher as a 3rd Party app, but that is the app that is causing the problem. I installed Epic Games launcher for one thing a while ago, but I don't use it anymore and the update is really needing to be installed. I will try to do this ASAP, thank you once again for all of your help, I appreciate it!
