"Video not available"

This message came up while I was watching a show on a Samsung TV: "Video not available. There's a problem loading this video. If this continues, check your internet connection."

It's not the internet connection--I turned on a show on another streaming service to check. What else can I do?

Can you disclose the show, so that others can try the same?

Does it happen for multiple titles in the Apple TV app?

If it is not a content provider issue …

Something is causing the app to be unable to contact the remote servers.

See if this document has clues that apply to your situation: If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app - Apple Support

“Video not available” may mean no valid reaction from the remote server.

  1. Verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting.
  2. Verify that your router doesn’t block ports that Apple services like to use.
  3. Verify that you use a good DNS on your router, like the one from your ISP, which gets updated with all server names that Apple might use.
  4. Verify that your TV has the correct date and time and timezone, as Apple may be more strict about that (TLS) than other content providers.

Else

  1. Check for TV OS software updates.
  2. Check for Apple TV app updates, if not set to do so automatically.
  3. Try resetting the Apple TV app.
  4. Try deleting and re-installing the Apple TV app, if possible for your device.
  5. Try restarting the TV.

Else contact the Apple Support staff for assistance.

Every show eventually gives me the "Video Not Available" window. Sometimes I can just try again, and it'll work for a while before it does it again. Sometimes I have to back all the out to the main menu and start again. No matter what, I'm always able to resume, but not without varying levels of hassle. I have a TCL Roku smart TV, and I think this is an Apple problem, and not a problem with my tech.

My experience echoes a lot of what has already been said on this thread. I subscribed to AppleTV in August and had watched several movies and a few different TV shows when, six weeks later, I started getting the "Video Not Available" message. In watching "The Morning Show," for example, I am able to watch the first minute or so before the error message comes up. I tried using the QR code and link.apple.com (with a unique code) several times to refresh the TV but the same message comes up every time.

I chatted and called into Apple Support and there may be problems with my internet connection. If that were the case, why am I able to watch part of The Morning Show and not the rest? And, why am I also able to click on other AppleTV shows/movies and watch parts of them as well? More importantly, how was I able to watch EVERYTHING on their website on my Smart TV for SIX STRAIGHT WEEKS without any problems until now?

Fortunately or unfortunately, I am able to watch AppleTV on my iPhone. Certainly not the best option when you have a room full of people who want to watch a show on your big screen. I am trying to find a way to mirror by iPhone of my 55" Samsung TV but I am also running into problems doing that - probably because my set is too old.

At this point, I am not going to continue my subscription unless I can figure out a solution. It wouldn't be worth watching future movies and TV shows only on my iPhone. What I don't understand is how I could have watched everything just fine on my big screen TV for six weeks and then, all of a sudden, I am only able to watch shows on my iPhone. It is not like I changed phones or TV sets. Everything is identical to the day I started my subscription.

I'm just glad there are other screening services out there to spend my entertainment dollars on; this one just isn't cutting it.

Same issue for me too. I have been able to watch all shows and movies on Appletv app on my Samsung TV and have cable Then all of a sudden I started getting that video can’t play message. My internet if fine as I can watch Netflix, Hulu, Max, and so on. I reset my appletv app. Still same issue. Funny because it’ll play a preview of another show in the beginning, will play the recap of a show, & even play intro to show but WILL NOT play the actual episode. I tried a few shows and movies same issue. I can play Appletv app on my phone fine!

Same thing for me. Started a few days ago and everything on Apple TV. All TVs in house on same network and all using firestick 4k. 2 TVs seem to work at the moment but others all get the “video unavailable” message a minute or two after the show starts. All other streaming services work fine. Network speed as measured on firestick is minimum of 200 mbps on all devices. Have restarted everything multiple times.

I am having the same problem. Apple TV app was working on this tv but yesterday stopped working. Plays a minute or so of show. Then says unable to load video. It’s not the internet connection because all the other apps work.

Apple Tv works on downstairs TV and on my phone but won’t work on the TV with the FireStick
