Copy and paste from iPhone to MacOS not working

I'm on MacOS Monterey and iOS 16.4.1 (both up to date), where copy-and-paste from my iPhone to MacOS is not working. Steps to debug include restarting bluetooth on each device; try pasting into different apps, try selecting/copying the text from the iPhone again, repeat debugging steps. No luck.

Is there a bug in the new revision of iOS that is preventing this operation? How can we fix this?

Handoff (the name of the mechanism for transferring state data between your Mac an iPhone) doesn't rely solely on Bluetooth.

Both devices have to be logged in on the same iCloud account, and Handoff needs to be enabled.

So first check that you're logged into iCloud on both devices.

The on the Mac, check System Preferences -> General, and make sure that the 'Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices' is enabled.

On the iPhone, check Settings -> General -> AirPlay & Handoff to make sure it's enabled there.

After my iPad, MacBook Pro and iPhone have been updated most recently, I can't copy and paste from one device to another. Example, I'm writing a speech on my Macbook Pro and want to copy and paste into a teleprompter app on my iPhone but can't do it. Macbook is Sonoma 14.2.1, ios on phone is 17.2.1, iPad OS is 17.3. mouse from Macbook also stopped going to the iPad. I've toggled Handoff settings, restarted all devices, toggled bluetooth on all devices. No luck

Some of the answers are just specific to the certain user's environment and are not solutions per se. Restart the iPhone, switch "Hand off" on and off are no-brainers and no solution either.

In my case, the iOS software update to 17.3.1 messed it all up, and that's typical of Apple these days; they fix some bugs and create new ones.

This issue is SO frustrating. I've been using this feature almost daily since it was released but then it was randomly stop working and for a few months now it stopped working entirely...

I went to try all the recommended fixes I could find online, and the ones on this thread, but still unsuccessful.

If only Apple were serious about customers support...

What seems evident, from the empirical evidence around, is the feature is not robustly implemented to support backward compatibility. The above suggestions don't work for me (MacOS Monterey and iOS 17). Even if some are fortunate to get this working, rebooting and disabling/enabling Airplane mode and other forms of magic should not be necessary. The ecosystem of MacOS and iOS is supposed to be well integrated and "just work". But it appears there are some long-standing bugs that may not be addressed. I'm willing to bet the real "fix" is to purchase updated equipment and run the latest MacOS -- that's not realistic for some. So we hope it gets fixed.

Six pages of replies for a problem that no one should ever have. Apple is busy building ever ultra-faster chips so it can build in AI everywhere but simple basics like this, or like sharing Apple Music song history between devices, recognizing text in images and PDFs, doing Airdrop, not forgetting photo rotation and other edits, syncing the page between Books on different devices, and many more are constantly buggy. Rather Apple should put the AI to work on writing more robust software on their side rather than foist it on us, and stop adding features until they can get their existing ones working consistently.
