Dark mode text unreadable.

iOS 16.4.1, Dark mode.

After updating iOS version text in grouped apps is unreadable since it's the same color as the background. I can only read my app names if the are on the home screen directly.

Workarounds: light mode only or dark mode with reduce transparency

Things that don't work: reboot or color filters. Smart invert kinda works but the text is very close to the background color.

My dad experienced the following:

In his preferred dark mode, all text on Home Screen and in boxes of grouped apps became black in color and almost impossible to read. He reached out to Apple, they opened a ticket and offered no solution.

He told me about the issue some time later, we compared several settings between our phones as I also only use dark mode. I then suggested he try the following:

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency

Turn on Reduce Transparency.

That is all. Dad called Apple back and made them aware that this is an acceptable solution and maybe they should tell people that when they call because they can’t read the black words on their screens. Apple didn’t seem to understand why he was sharing the info with them but was happy to close the ticket once they confirmed multiple times that nothing is currently wrong with his phone.

While I don’t work for Apple and I am just a farm kid from Georgia, if you’ll Reduce Transparency you can go back to using your iPhone as it was meant to be used.

Dark mode text unreadable.
