WD Passports is greyed out and will not mount on MacBook Pro

I am having an issue mounting my WD Passport drive. I have switched over most of my drives to SanDisk due to the never ending issues I have with the Passport but still have some content I utilize on them. My SanDisk is mounting fine but my main WD Passport will not mount this morning. I also tried other Passports I still have and it's still the same greyed out issue where it will not mount.

that could be the cause of your issue. when you use software from just about any manufacturer for their storage device you run the risk of that same software not being compatible with macOS updates / upgrades. it can cause the software to stop working. at best this will cause you a headache. at worst it can render your data inaccessible. it is always best to use disk utility to erase and format a drive before use to remove any preloaded software.

if you are using such software, i think your options are somewhat limited.

you may want to contact WD and see if there is an update for their software.

alternatively, if you have a backup you can revert your macOS to the version of macOS that the drive was working on and transfer your data to another storage device and then erase and format the WD device before putting it back into service.

I'm having a similar issue. I have a My Passport Ultra for MAC. It's worked fine for about 8 months. Last week, the light comes on, it does not click or make any weird noises, but will not mount when plugged in. I've tried 4 different MAC's (Intel and Silicon). the WD Drive Utilities sees the drive on each Mac, but it will not mount and is not showing in Disk utility. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I really need to get to the data on the drive.
