Your phone likely has a damaged battery, IMMEDIATELY contact a repair center and keep the phone in a sealed and secure container and away from burnable objects, preferably outside. This device may be a fire risk.

Troubleshooting an Overheating-Dropped iPhone:

Any Corrosion?

I am wondering if it is a corrosive battery. Do you see any lumps on the iPhone? If so, it is corroding, and that makes this a health hazard. So, if corrosion is occurring, you should get this serviced, ASAP.

Contact Apple Support:

A. Contacting Apple Support:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as necessary
  • Note: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

B. Contacting an AASP:

Also, look into taking it to an AASP(Apple Authorized Service Provider) seeing if they offer service for this.

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the iPhone

No lumps it powers on when plugged in but heats up and gives the temperature message on the screen and then goes dark. Thank you for your information as well. I just don’t know where I can take it. It’s an older phone obviously, but it still works great other than this issue, I don’t have any coverage with Apple anymore.
