iPad Pro 12.9 M2 iOS 16.4 display keyboard malfunction when changing orientation.

iPad Pro 12.9 M2 iOS 16.4 display keyboard malfunction when changing orientation.

since being on iOS 16.4 and using the on screen display keyboard there is a bug that makes the app using the keyboard crash. It seems to happen if you keep changing from landscape to portrait. The keyboard sometimes won’t align properly and is even half of the screen or in some weird configuration unusable. And then the app will hang and crash. The native apps seem to be ok so far. And I have a feeling it maybe to do with Home Screen and multitasking apps. The app can flip from being entire screen to a windowed app and the keyboard then struggles to work out where it should be laid out. Of course this could be third party developers problem but as the keyboard is laid on top of the app and part of the screen Apple should have worked this out.

is anyone else experiencing this glitch? I haven’t updated to latest iOS as I’m still dealing with the annoying Apple iCloud log in problem after installing iOS 16.4. I would be grateful if anyone can share their solution if it exists.

thanks.

I turned off Stage Manager and it seems to be better now. Bit sad though as that feature was very useful. I suspect that certain third party apps were not coded correctly when in Stage Manager multitasking and causing bugs.

Multitasking is Likely the Culprit:

RAM is all about multitasking, which computers are made to perform with. So, if it is lagging on you, then I’d expect lots of other apps are running in the background (ie Security Software or TV or Music). Mobile devices (ie iPad)are not intended for lots of multitasking. So, in your feedback, mention about this app may be taking up lots of RAM for a mobile device.

There are two solutions for this problem. First is turn on Portrait Orientation Lock this will prevent the screen from orienting and thus prevent the keyboard from glitching out go to Settings under Control Center and add it to Control Center then open Control Center and press the lock icon and activate it. Second you can fix the keyboard temporarily by quickly pressing and holding the emoji button and an menu will pop up at the bottom you can select which keyboard style you want to use.
