Preview doesn't display audio file info from external drives in Monterey or Ventura

After recently updating my 2018 i5 Mini to Monterey (this is about Ventura too--please bear with me), Preview stopped showing any info except artwork and time duration for audio files located on any of my external drives:

However, the info is there for files located on my internal SSD:

These are the same files in different locations, the metadata is the same.

I had weird, serious Ui freezing issues with Monterey, so I updated further to Ventura, and although Ventura seems to have solved my UI freezing (works great despite compatibility fears), the file info still does not appear in Preview for the audio files on either of my externals. These externals are both FAT32 connected via USB3 connections. The issue is present with USB hubs eliminated and drives directly connected.

Would anyone know a reason for this? Is it a known behavior on these OSes? It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to fix it if possible. Thank you!

Mac mini, macOS 13.3

They always worked on Mojave and others, and I thought it worked the first few times I installed Monterey (that was a mess, reinstalled 5x before trying Ventura).

This is relevant and I should have mentioned it....

Before I realized the Monterey install was a bust, I connected my primary external to a Windows machine and deleted the hidden Mac files from the root of the drive. I only did this because every time I opened the drive on my Mac it opened to the same particular folder, which was weird and annoying. I figured the OS would just re-write whatever hidden system files and "reset" the whole thing. Maybe I was wrong and shouldn't have done that? It stopped expanding to that same folder every time after I deleted the files, but it was also around then that I noticed this problem.

BUT this missing file info is also occurring on my backup drive. I never messed with any hidden files there, and I did all my backups before the first Monterey install, so I'm not positive what I did in Windows is actually the cause of this.

Thanks for checking how yours behaves.
