Apple CarPlay GPS wrong location issue

IOS bug unable to distinguish between the GPS data from Mobile and Vehicle Antenna. So as long as it is connected and working with Mobile device's antenna Car play works. Why Apple not in a hurry to fix this simple bug to allow car play to always use the Mobile device's GPS antenna?

Apple! You really have to make this a higher priority!!!

Works for me on our cars with only wired connection, with WiFi off but people with wireless it is mostly useless and it will force us to buy Android devices!!!

My Tundra radio is wire, not wireless. I do use an accessory to make it wireless. Problem is continuous wired and with wireless dongle. And randomly affects phone maps and car navigation or both. And I agree very dangerous.

I have opened a support case. Apple is going to reach out to both my head unit manufacturer and the other car manufacturer I was able to reproduce this on. I am going to take a video of this happening in my vehicle and then upload those case details. I’ll post back here when I have more.

This issue can easily be resolved permanently by a Simple iOS patch.

Cause : The Car play is confused when it receives GPS info from Vehicle. But it works perfectly as long as it keeps using the connect device's GPS antenna.

Patch : If iOS can bring a toggle to give flexibility to device owner to override Car play setting to Use connected device's GPS always or until it is available, then The Problem will never ever occur in any device/any Vehicle/Any Car play version.

But Apple seems to be in denial mode as far as it concerns.

Apple does not want to give any flexibility to end user for anything.

This is the Reason why Android Auto works so smooth and consistently.

Till then Use 2 device.

I had a ticket with Apple and did the same thing. I think all we're gonna get is finger pointing and that's it. They obviously don't care - neither the carmakers or the headunit manufacturers or Apple. Sad reality.

I am the new owner of a used 2021 Ford Escape Titanium.

i am having the same problem with the GPS going waaay off.

Using iPhone 13pro iOS 17.4.1 hard wired CarPlay. Ford Sync latest updated software and maps.

The article indicated app be on or on when using which mine were. And it still didn’t work. I finally disconnected CarPlay and car navigation was more accurate.

And my new Tundra is a different radio and now works.

Does it ever finally converge? mine takes like 5 minutes.

I’ve used navigation over carplay a alot but today it stared adding weird offset to location. Like few tens of yards to 3 miles…

I’m actually parked at that location. Once I disconnect from carplay, it goes to correct location.

Any luck on a fix? This is annoying that my old Honda fit works but my nice kenwood head unit does not

In response to “reset head unit”: This is not helpful as the car model and instructions were not provided. This is happening across multiple car brands.

I am using wireless CarPlay(no cable). It is still happening to me though sometimes it appears to center after 5-10 minutes. This is pretty ridiculous.
