Apple CarPlay GPS wrong location issue

Does you vehicle have built in navigation maps/GPS? If so, if you stop CarPlay (unplug or put phone in airplane mode if you have wireless CarPlay), what location does it show?

If you don't have built in nav, you should contact Apple customer support. They don't look these messages officially.

GPS navigation works fine on iPhone when not connected to carplay..

You'll most likely have this issue using CarPlay with both Wi-Fi and wired (unfortunately).

It is actually a VW problem, not an Apple problem. Apple CarPlay is using the vehicle's GPS location and not the GPS location from the iPhone. I think that is intentional as it assumes that the vehicle's GPS is more accurate. Please check with your dealer.

Same issues here. Sometimes the icon with be on roads parallel to the one I'm on, constantly trying to reroute itself. Super annoying! Use Google Maps outside of CarPlay, no issues.

The VW's GPS is wrong and it is being used as the primary source in CarPlay which causes the phone to use that bad location while running CarPlay. My car and iPhone with CarPlay behaves exactly the same way. Great video showing the issue, thanks!

It seems to be primarily the VW system bad location. Questions that don't have answers yet:

1. Why is the VW GPS so terrible?

2. Why can't Apple CarPlay allow you to choose the phone's source as the location instead of the car's GPS source?

Surely by now both Apple and VW know what the real issue is. Neither will admit responsibility for a solution.

I spent over 4 hours on the phone with Apple tech support and that yielded nothing.

Same problem for three years with Toyota Tundra 2021. Used to be both maps (car and iphone) would put me miles away on a trip once it started to drift off course. Dealer could not fix thru 6 visits including call from ToyotaUSA. Presently car navigation and phone work separately so I stopped using CarPlay. Waste of time. Most useless program Apple has made. Is my only car with CarPlay on it which I did specifically want to use. Very disappointed.

encountered the same issue with third-party navigation on my BMW i7 with CarPlay . Despite reaching out to BMW for assistance, I did not receive a response. As a result, I ended up purchasing an Android phone and utilizing Android Auto in order to use the third-party navigation maps instead and working fine but not with my CarPlay with iPhone 15.

Everyone complaining here should realise that Apple doesn’t react to comments on the forum. So everyone needs to submit a bug report to the Apple feedback site. You can search and find the address easily.

That is so strange because I have the same exact car and have experienced the same issues. I don't know if this is a problem with my car or my iPhone. I have the 12 pro so it is not the newest but my car is brand new. Have you gone to VW to see if it could be the car?

Good luck. And I will look for your replies. 3 years and 6 service calls sometimes with upgrade software from Toyota and system is still a fail. Never reconnects after time with all cables. Apple has ignored my inquiries. I no longer use CarPlay and will unlikely pay for that accessory in the future.

I´ve had experienced the same problem (me and my wife). I just bought a Toyota Corolla and my Iphone 15 just got crazy GPS with Waze (about 5-10 min o f use the signal becomes very instable and waze made sugestions that could end in a life threatening situation, the GPS made me turn and drive in a wrong way direction for more than two times). My wife has a Iphone 14 and a Toyota Cross with the same problem.

I´ve tried to change the apps (switch to Maps ou Google but the same situation occours). I think (more like a guess) the fact the Apple CarPlay makes the Iphone disable the Wifi when connected wirelessly could made the GPS a little bit more unnacurate, but to change directons at the lane? Think It´s a big issue and don´t see that Apple is making any efforts to solve this issue. What's the point of using a LCD touch screen if you cannot just trust in directions that is made through the screen? What's the point of a handsfree tech if you have to disable the iphone and start to type and manage the wheels? How about security issues? Does it bothers Apple?

SAME issues with wrong location with connected CarPlay. EVERY time once I start driving - need wait from 30s to few minutes to see right location

3 years from the day I purchased the Tundra, had this problem. Finally gave up and discontinued use of Car Play. For other reasons traded in Tundra for a new 2024 Tundra. Car Play has worked all week. It's an Apple issue.

This has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE for me!!!

I am at a loss I have reset my phone reset my network settings etc and NOTHING seems to help!

I have a 2024 Lexus NX.

HOWEVER, my daughter just bought a 2024 VW SUV and her husband just bought a 2024 Chevy GMC and they thought I was crazy until now with both of their new cars they are experiencing it as well.

We can only think that it has to do with the new computer chips that were so backordered not long ago.

I even went as far as paying hundreds of dollars to get Wifi in my car hoping it would fix it and it did not.

Like others in the above comments reported it does it with all apps. Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze etc.

I drive to patient's homes for a living this has GOT to be resolved.

It is very dangerous as it had me driving the wrong way on a busy street in KC before.

I have the same issue with

• iPhone 15 Pro
• CarPlay on my 2020 VW Jetta Premium.
• iOS version: latest 17.5.1

I started reporting this issue in Beta testing and reporting the issue since March.

Whenever I enter my car and start using the navigation on CarPlay it works fine for about 5-10min, then the lag, and finally between 300 ft to 500 ft off. Once the screen gets locked the location starts showing incorrectly. I does not matter if my phone is locked or unlocked this issue persist. I see this issue on Apple Maps and Google Maps.
