Why do I need to buy content when I already pay for the subscription

With a subscription as expensive as AppleTV why do I still need to spend even more money to watch any of the good movies or shows? It doesn’t seem fair to make your subscribers pay so much so many times. Seems pointless to have a subscription just to pay more on top of that.

There is no double charging. The Apple TV app hosts more content than just the Apple TV+ subscription catalog. The subscription is not for the app (the app itself is free), but for access to the Apple Originals a.k.a Apple TV+ catalog. Buying or renting movies or TV shows is separate from the subscription. One does not require the other. See Apple TV+ as an in-app subscription channel.

With the Apple TV app on your smart TV or third party streaming device, you can access:

Buy/rent prices are set by the supplying studios, and pretty much on par with every other content provider with buy/rent content. I.e. no honest reason to think of that as excessive, compared to anywhere else.

Yes nothing new seems to appear I had a look last time a free subscription was offered nothing at all I wanted to watch 6 months later still exact same things

Some of what has been added in April 2024

  • Franklin (very favorably reviewed by a Franklin scholar)
  • Sugar
  • Loot
  • Girls State

Most notable from March 2024

  • Manhunt (CSI meets the Lincoln assassination. I think it's great.)
  • Napoleon
  • The Reluctant Traveler, Season 2

Not exactly what I would call "nothing new". But, only you can decide if you like what Apple is offering. They do tend to offer slightly more cerebral content than some of the other streaming services. It's certainly not for everyone.

Also if you have not seen these, I would strongly recommend to give them a watch:
H/Jack
• Finch
• Ted Lasso

Hijack is on my list. I've heard good things about Finch, but ever since COVID, I've had trouble with post-apocalyptic plotlines. Silo was an exception, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next season. I don't generally care for sitcoms but I do like Ted Lasso.

I'm not going to subscribe it after end of trial period unless this changes.

That would be an obvious choice if you are not interested in any of the content. No one would recommend you keep a subscription if you do not use the service. New content is added every week. For me I would rather pay a lower cost for new content, than pay a higher price on other streaming services to watch old reruns of TV Shows and movies that have been out for years. The choice is yours to make.

Not sure why you only seen 50 options to choose from, for a full list visit this page and many of the titles are series with multiple episodes spanning years. Again this is original programming and not something you will find anywhere else.

I think this is where I'm confused. I have Apple tv subscription and I'm trying to watch Apple content and still asks me to subscribe. What is even more insane is that I have been watching the Morning Show (first season) for free and recently I wanted to watch second season all of a sudden asked me for subscription. Now I can't access any apple content including ones I have watched in the past. Is this just me or they changed something in the last few months?

All Apple TV+ original content is viewable with your subscription. What you are seeing suggests a problem that may be on Apple's server side not recognizing you as a subscriber. I have not experienced this issue, but would be just as concerned as you are. Have you tried signing out of your Account and signing back in? If no luck, I would contact Apple directly. That last statement is simply wrong. I subscribe to most streaming services and Apple is the only one that charges over and above the subscription, and costs more than almost all my other streaming services. I haven unsubscribed because it brings absolutely zero value for money. Why must Apple massively overcharge for absolutely everything it sells, and then tell us how lucky we are.
