OneDrive causing double mounting of network shares in Ventura
So I thought I'd share a small bit of info which has fixed a troublesome issue when mounting network shares on my Mac via the login items method at startup.
I have two shares one a PC SAN share and the other a NAS drive share which I mount everyday at startup. Recently there has been an unknown issue causing the shares to double mount on the desktop so I'd end up with 4 volumes mounted instead of 2 - 4 icons on desktop not two and 4 shares listed in the volumes folder not 2.
The issue has sometimes caused more than just double mounts - in fact the worst case caused it to mount the drives 4 times so I had quadruple mounted shares... if you can believe it.
Weirdly the issue was not present until a few weeks ago and I was putting it down to some weird OS behaviour, the workaround was to simply write a script via automator and launch that instead via login items which worked fine, but I wasn't happy not knowing the cause of the problem which seems to plague people across the net having searched to find solutions to this issue and coming across many who also suffer similar problems with multiple mounting across varied Mac OS's.
Finally I have tracked it down - yay!
We have OneDrive at work and when it's installed it adds a Sharepoint app to the login items as well as a service in the list below the login items window (in Ventura), after many restarts and switching things on and off in both login and services we tracked it down to the OneDrive service and the Sharepoint login item. Turning both these off has stopped the issue from occurring since.
I'd still like to know why those were causing the issue in the first place but I guess that's probably something I'll never know. However if you are experiencing similar issues and you have OneDrive installed or your company has it then try turning off the items mentioned above to see if that stops your problems.
My sanity has returned having found the culprits and I can now function again without issue.
