My new iPhone is named iPhone within the list of my devices on my AppleID.
It doesn't seem to exist any direct easy way to change its name on the AppleID web interface.

But this doesn't answer to the original question.

I had this issue too. Change the name of the device in Settings > About > Rename, did not update the device's name in the listed devices under Apple ID in Settings > Apple ID > listed devices. I think it's a bug. The solution was to turn off / restart the renamed iPhone.
