Unable to access icloud storage?

I've had 2TB iCloud storage for some time and have 1.8TB free space;

I have a folder containing photos on an external drive which I would like to copy to iCloud for backup.

The folder is 170GB;

But when I try to copy it to iCloud, it tells me it starts to transfer and then tells me that I dont have enough space;

What am I missing here?

Im on a Macbook Pro running Ventura 13.3.1

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike. Aubert,

This message is referring to the internal storage on your Mac rather than free space in iCloud Drive. To move a file from an external to iCloud Drive it first copies to your Mac internal storage.

An altrenative option for this may be to upload the file directly at iCloud.com. Sign in and select the iCloud Drive feature then upload from there: Upload and download files from iCloud Drive on iCloud.com - Apple Support.

You can also free up space on your Mac using some of the tips below: Free up storage space on your Mac - Apple Support

Cheers!
