2015 MacBook Pro only getting self-assigned IP address

Get self assigned IP address for any network connection - ethernet, wifi and mobile hotspot. I have tried all the recommended fixes that I can find (Reset firewall etc). I've removed virus checker (Mcafee). All to no avail.

OS is Monterey

Any help appreciated!

Thanks, EtreCheck was useful to identify some things that needed cleaning up.

The problem was a McAfee system extension living in /Library/SystemExtensions. Had to boot in recovery mode and turn off System Integrity Protection by running 'csrutil disable' in the terminal option, and then booting in safe mode so that I could delete the McAfee extension.

After that reboot in recovery mode and run csrutil enable in the terminal option to turn SIP back on.

Then I was able to get connected to my router and getting proper IPaddresses after rebooting in normal mode.

By far the easiest way to cause instability, crashing, and difficulty making a connection is to install ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners. or a VPN that you installed yourself.

¿do you have anything like that installed?

if you do, remove it and try again, or restart into Safe Mode where most of that does not auto-load.

I believe the problem is on the MacBook itself since the problem occurs with Wifi and ethernet connections to my router, and also if I use my mobile phone to provide a Wifi hotspot. With the Wifi connections I have a strong signal (in particular my phone is right next to the MacBook when trying to connect to the mobile hotspot).

Also numerous devices including PCs, phones and iPads have connected to both the router and to the mobile hotspot.

Is it possible to log the conversation of the MacBook DHCP client attempting to contact the router DHCP server?
