Connection Error: iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server.

I keep getting this Connection Error on my MacBook Pro. I have tried over several days, and have restarted my MacBook Pro to no avail. I have not changed the password. It seems to have started when I updated my MacBook Pro to Catalina MacOS 10.15.7.

Help!

NB: icloud still works fine on my iPhone using iOS 16.4.1.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Troubleshooting iCloud Logins:

A. Go here: If you can't Connect or Sign in to iCloud - Apple Support

B. Try Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user
  6. Perform another login

C. Restart your Router:

Poor off your router for 30 seconds, and then power it back on. Try this once more.

D. Disable VPNs:

Are you connected to a VPN? If so, disconnect form it while logging in.

E. Try Later On:

There is likely an error connecting to Apple's servers. So, try this tomorrow, or later in the day. Utility work may be taking place down the street.

I was having this issue on a Windows PC. This video's solution is the only thing that worked for me. In case the video doesn't work for you:

  1. Type ncpa.cpl into your Windows search bar. Click on the resulting "Control panel item" which should bring you to this screen:
  2. Whatever your active network adapter is (wireless card, ethernet adapter), right click it, click Properties, then uncheck IPv6 setting, like below. Note: if you're plugged into ethernet and your wireless card is connected, you want to change this setting on whichever connection is active. Typically the ethernet will be active if both ethernet and wireless card are connected.
  3. Try icloud.com again.

I'm not a tech expert, but this seems to suggest Apple has a configuration issue they need to change.

Hello again Littles,

BooneKate here again, and the Safe Mode protocol is not working. This is what I did:

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot]. Held down shift key as I fired up my MacBook
  2. Log in: as same user Logged into my MacBook with my standard password
  3. Wait: 30 seconds Waited 30+ seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac. Restarted my MacBook
  5. Log in: as same user. Logged into my MacBook with my standard password
  6. Perform another login. Opened a new tab, went to iCloud.com, and attempted to log in to iCloud. I received the same error message.
  7. Repeated twice with same outcome.
  8. :-( :-( :-( < unhappy faces.
