iPhone Wallpaper Limit Reached

I cannot add a new wallpaper because there's a lot of new wallpapers that was added on my device that I did not add.

I've tried to delete a lot of them but after doing so... I'm still receiving an error message saying "Wallpaper Limit Reached. Please delete one to add a new one".

This has been an issue since I've upgraded to iOS 16.3 and now I'm running 16.5 and still experiencing the same issue.

when i delete the walpaper and it says its deleted and i try to go add a new one, it says “walpaper limit reached” regardless of me deleting empty black screen wallpapers. What to do? Because i’ve tried everything and im clueless to what the issue is.

Has anyone figured out a fix to this issue thus far?

To delete some of the wallpapers—and there may be an easier way—tap the sleep button to go back to the login screen, long press on the wallpaper to get into the wallpaper customization mechanism, swipe right or left until you get to a wallpaper you don't want, swipe it upwards, and select the trashcan icon that will be shown to confirm the deletion of the selected wallpaper.

Deletion of an existing wallpaper is really well hidden, unfortunately. I'd have expected a way to delete wallpapers within Settings > Wallpaper, but there does not seem to be a way to do that. Not at least as recently as iOS 17.4.1.
