Apple Lightning to USB 3 Adapter not charging phone or communicating to DAC after iOS 16.5 update

I responded to a similar thread in the iPad community section, but am posting here in case my phone-specific issue needs to be here.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and have been using the official Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter for months to send lossless Apple Music to my DAC, and it's worked flawlessly and charged my phone at the same time.

As soon as I updated to iOS 16.5 this morning, the adapter not only doesn't communicate to the DAC at all, it doesn't even charge my phone. When I test plugging in an iPad on a previous OS version, it communicates and charges just fine.

This has to be an issue with iOS 16.5, and I hope it's resolved quickly - seems like a very bad look for an official Apple accessory to be rendered inoperable by a step update of iOS.

I chatted with support and submitted via Feedback page as well, just wanted to add my voice to the chorus here as well, very frustrating.

I have tried different charging cables. All work without the adapter. When connected to my iPhones via the Apple Lightning to USB adapter, none of them works. The adapter does not appear broken or damaged, I purchased it new very recently. The iPhones seem not to recognize Apple's own adapter. The only other possibility would be that the adapter is internally damaged and has to be replaced.

The adapter works; I tried it on a very old iPad running 12.xx and it was fine. I also have found that if I plug it in and open photos myself, the SD card appears in the app and I can import pictures. It appears that somewhere in the last few releases Apple has broken the mechanism where the OS recognizes that when the adapter is plugged in with an SD card, it is supposed to start photos and open the card for import. The files app will also recognize the SD card.
