Wireless charge question : The charge stopped because IPhone temperature

iPhones have always paused at 80% when fast charged to allow the battery to cool down, but they didn’t display a message; they just paused until the phone's temperature stabilized. Users have sometimes asked in ASC why it has “stopped charging at 80%,” and this is the answer; that it has to cool down, and will resume after a pause.

With iOS 16.5 and later Apple has added a message SAYING why it has paused. But if you had never noticed that it paused at 80%, then this sounds like the update broke something. It's normal, just more information about why it paused.

Wireless chargers are less efficient than charging with a lightning cable, so, by the 2nd law of thermodynamics they will produce heat, because wasted energy is heat. So it is normal for the phone to need to cool down during the charge cycle if the ambient air is much higher than room temperature.

Any Qi compatible 7.5 watt charger should be safe. If you use a MagSafe compatible charger (15 watts), which is a faster charger, it will make the phone quite a bit warmer.

Hi I have just started to receive the same message/issue. Updated to iOS 16.5 3 days ago. Have suddenly started getting the battery charge on hold message whilst charging at 6%. iPhone 12 mini. Ambient temperature of room is 19 degrees. Phone is not hot to the touch at all.

Has the weather gotten warmer in your area?

I state 6%. Charged to 20% then stopped. Battery health check shows capacity at 87%
