Hello Lisa Vogt,
We'd be happy to help. A .plist is a preference file for an application. With the Music app open, click Music > Settings > Files, does the iTunes Music Media location point to the iTunes Media folder? If not, that may be the cause of the issue. If it points to your desktop, change it to the correct folder and restart your computer.
Thanks.
Thanks for replying back that the file has returned, Lisa Vogt.
Because it has returned to your desktop, the next best step would be to reach out to Apple Support directly. They can walk through additional troubleshooting steps to determine why this file keeps returning. You can reach them here: Get Support
You can also find the support phone number for your region at this link: Contact Apple for support and service
Best regards.
I trashed it on another Mac and got a pop-up asking if I'd like to delete it forever. and when I did, it stopped appearing (at least for now) on all my Macs. I'm not sure what the deal was, but I'm hoping it won't come back. Thank you.
Thanks for reaching out, ace1018!
Unfortunately, it does not point to my desktop:
