I found a solution for this.

  • Delete your Yahoo! account from Internet Accounts.

  • Go to your Yahoo! account in your browser.

  • Click on your account on the top right.

  • Click Security.

  • Click Generate and manage app passwords.

  • Enter "Mail" when prompted for an App.

  • Copy the password Yahoo creates.

  • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

  • Instead of clicking Yahoo!, click Add Other Account.

  • Click @ Mail account.

  • Enter your Yahoo! email address and paste the app password you just generated on the Yahoo! website.

This worked for me and I now have my Yahoo! emails actively coming into the Mail app on my Mac.

No, not in admin...

This is the process...

Then it asks for this....

I put the password in and then get this....

So I click either stay verified, or not now. Both have the same result. I then get this.....

to which I put in the code from the authenticator app and then get this....

This happens time and time again, even though it keeps asking me to sign in :(

when I go to yahoo security, it seems to set this up, when when it asks for the app name, no matter what I try (Mail, macos macMail, etc.) it says "Sorry this feature is not available right now" !!!

So, there is currently NO workaround for me! I sure wish Apple would fix this!

Same as with others, this username and password combo works fine with yahoo's web interface.

I'm getting same error message - in yahoo when generate an app password for Mail - it says "Sorry, this feature is not available right now!"

My problem started after updating to Catalina, after migrating from time machine backup, internet accounts did not migrate, so Im using the correct passwords (luckily all written down)... but continual authentication errors.

I wish!! Looks like my problem is with isp - Rogers Canada. They say that yahoo has disabled their 3rd party app passwords for security??? Anyway, still in a holding pattern because the only way I can change or add passwords is through my rogers account even though I sign in with yahoo and can get my mail - I get redirected to Rogers for passwords. Meanwhile, I can’t access my calendar, mail or messaging through the Mac mail app on my lovely brand new computer. Very frustrating Baaah

Rumour from Rogers is that yahoo is going to stop supporting mail apps, again because of security issues. Techs are telling people to abandon yahoo which just seems wrong to me. They are the only game in town, which is not saying very much for Canadian technology. I pay them over $300 a month and they can’t even give me access to standard apps. Meanwhile Rogers is pointing the finger at everyone and not taking any responsibility, even though they are taking my money. As of yesterday they were back to trying to blaming Mac. Mail, calendar and contacts work just fine on iPhone 14 and pc. spend another half hour on the phone with Apple who can’t come up with work around.

If you don't change your OS or buy a new Mac - you are fine. But I bought my Mom a Mac Mini to replace her super slow iMac and now she can't have Mac Mail (well - with Rogers)? She's in her 80s and been with Rogers forever and mail is super important to her, but learning a new app is going to be painful. Might be time to have her look at Bell or Teksavvy and get her mail from.... er..... anywhere else.

I have read through this thread and tried many things. Finally, something worked, so I wanted to share. First, I am on MacOS Ventura 13.4.1. I started having this issue when up upgraded my OS. After trying what people have suggested in this thread, the following worked:

1) I have generated 3rd party app password on Yahoo as suggested in the thread below

2) I have removed saved Yahoo password from my Safari browser and (just in case) from the Keychain app

3) In adding an internet account, I didn't click on "Yahoo" instead I clicked on "Add another account" and just entered my yahoo user name with "@yahoo.com" domain.

4) I have etered the 3rd party app password that Yahoo has generated for me.

My Yahoo! Mail works!

Hope this works for you too!

Yahoo has gone to this too...

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

So Im trying this method but there's a step no one is mentioning which is when you try to "generate app password" on the yahoo page it asks for the app name and no matter what app name I input, I get the response that "Sorry this feature is not available right now!" So what is the correct app name you are supposed to input not to get the "Sorry..." message? Perhaps I missed something...

Same for me, "Sorry, this feature is not available at this time!"

I have tried to login after setting up 2 step authentication and logging in using the mail app up to the point of entering the verification code either emailed or texted to me to get an Authentication failed message again!

I feel if i hadn't deleted yahoo from Apple Mail I might have been OK? As this is a month later, did any of you eventually get in?

Running Mac OS CATALINA 10.15.7

Get all the same responses and issues in all 4 pages of REPLIES.

I have used YAHOO generate 3rd Party PSWRD APP and get PSWRD NOT RECOGNIZED.

Also get the Yahoo Login Failed, Try Again Later.

I've attempted to create a new 'INTERNET MAIL' Account. When I use my Yahoo ID for the ACCOUNT, I receive Err Msg: ACCOUNT Already Exists.

For my Technical Purpose, I won't upgrade to newer MAC OS(If that's only solution, I'll just buy a new MAC MINI🙄). Any One who can assist me if fixing this, would be really appreciate. I'm very luck in that when I originally configured APPLE EMAIL, that I retained ALL MAIL/MAILBOXES on YAHOO SERVER, when YAHOO MAIL was transferred to APPLE MAIL.
