Internet Recovery via Ethernet cable

Does it matter which LAN port on the back of my Modem/Router I plug the Ethernet cable into? Should an Ethernet cable connection show up as an option on the Internet recovery set-up screen? It hasn't when I have tried this so difficult to know whether it was connecting.
