Gathering printer information keeps coming up when I want to print on my phone but no the iPad.

I had this same issue when our iPhone updated to IOS 17... Apple help tried all the usual things that did not work. Finally, they asked if I had updated my printers firmware. I updated the firmware and sure enough it was working again. Before the update to the firmware all of our updated iPhones would not select the printer, however, our old iPhone with IOS 14.. could print fine. So try updating your printers firmware.

okay so I found a way around this but it adds steps to process . rather then 1 step to print you now have 4 or 5 steps to allow print. When you go to print you will see on top a picture that looks like a page with arrow on it . Click on that then go down to which printer you use and click on that . You'll get notice that it might not print correctly. Hit ok but if you only want to print certain page you will see star up on top for settings. Click on that to make your selections and click done . then click on print at bottom of page. Good luck until they come up with a fix to Update 17.0.2

Yes, the problem has been solved. I had the exact same issue. As you and I was told from this community to turn off my VPN I did so that did not have the problem because every time my Wi-Fi kicked in my VPN would turn on by itself so I had to uninstall my VPN completely. In my opinion, you don’t need VPN when you have an apple, and now my printer works perfectly… Hope that helps !

I had the same problem but managed to to fix it by resetting the network settings on my iPhone 12 Pro.

1. settings
2. general
3. transefer or reset iphone
4. reset
5. reset network settings

I then had to re-enter the password on my phone from my router on my iphone to connect the Wi-Fi and now I don’t have the “gathering printer information “ problem and I can print from my phone.

With my IPhone 11, it was definitely in the VPN. Turning off my VPN did not work ( I have 4 VPN’s which were throw in’s when I signed up for a free security app but when I selected AoL Safe Central VPN, it decided it would print.

I was having same printer problem on my iPhone 12 Pro even with latest software update 17.4 where after selecting printer it goes into loop saying gathering printer information and finally printer selection disappears. To fix this I discovered VPN completely and problem went away instantly. I can print and no more gathering printer information happening.

funny thing is my wife has iPhone 8S and VPN is connected and have no printing problem with 17 version software.

I was having the same problem with trying to print from an iPad mini6 to an HP printer.

i had iOS 17.2 installed.

By upgrading to iOS 17.3 the problem was solved.

This was done through contacting Apple support.

You didn't mention if you're using AirPrint, or an app from the printer manufacturer. If you're using AirPrint, did you follow these steps?

Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If so, have you talked to the printer manufacturer to verify if anything needs to be done, such as a firmware update?

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support

Yes, uninstall your VPN because every time your Wi-Fi kicks in your VPN automatically turns on and that’s why your printer can’t print because your vpn Is confusing it.

Yes uninstall your VPN completely because just turning it off does not solve the problem because every time your Wi-Fi comes on your VPN automatically kicks in so if you uninstall your VPN completely which you don’t need anyway when you have an apple device, then your printer will print perfectly

Even if i delete profile management which is under VPN & Device Management, the print option does not work after the latest IOS update. On phone/iOS you can do extra steps and print via HP smart but it's more steps and doesnt let you choose the scaling options. But just clicking Print keeps saying gathering information when you click on printer, and then the printer continues to disappear.

@Apple - clearly there's still a need to fix this. Please comment as it's not VPN issue and firmware is FULLY updated.

I think it has to do with update to 17.0.2 IOS update. I cannot print from my Iphone 12 any longer and it keeps gathering printer info so will not allow print function . i am using Epson ET-3760 printer . My supply levels on printer are full also.
