iCloud Recovery Key Compromised Two-factor authentication OK
(I’m using another Apple ID in order to be post the critical question. Apple Support and Genius Store do not have answers).
I do bi-monthly iPhone Erase and restore for performance for many years.
May 2, 2023 I installed the IOS 16.4.1a release.
I erased my iPhone and restored from an iCloud backup. It was missing some iMessages, so I erased it again and restored from iCloud again.
The second time, I could not restore from iCloud backup. It did not recognize my Apple ID. It did not recognize my Apple ID. Same ID I’ve been using for years.
At this point I have no access to an iCloud restore point and my 50 GB/Month iCloud data is inaccessible at this time. I went to an Apple Store and they found that I have a Primary Apple ID and two Mobile Apple IDs on this iPhone. My primary is not accessible.
My primary iCloud Apple ID, which I’ve never used or even recognized, is not accessible because I don’t know the password.
However, I click “forgot password” it asks for my last 4 digits of my phone # and sends me a six digit code on my device. 2FA has always been setup on this device and has never changed.
It will not verify my identity and will not allow me to reset my password. After I satisfy the 2FA, it directs me to the 28 character recovery page. I do not have the 28 character recovery key. Why isn’t it authenticated me?
Over 4 years of data is currently lost. I have been paying Apple $.99 a month for 50 GB iCloud per month. Credit card being charged monthly is in my name and proof of purchase of iPhone is in my name. Credit card is and always had been my payment method on iPhone.
I satisfy the two factor authentication after “forgot password” and it will not let me change my password.
WHY????????
