Facebook app refusing correct password on new iPad

This problem seems to have been around for several years, but I still can't find a successful answer to it. Hopefully someone out there can offer some sage advice.


My wife has a new iPad. It was setup from her old iPad. All apps on the new iPad recognise their respective passwords... except for the FB app. The app on her old iPad still accepts the password after logging out and logging back in. As does FB on the web. But not the app on the new iPad. Why would that be?


We have, of course, tried all the obvious remedies – reinstalling the app, hard reset of the iPad, etc., etc. – but all to no avail. The same problem was posted up by linwoodlake01 two years ago, so I can't imagine there's a bug in the app that hasn't been fixed by now. Does anyone have any ideas?

the problem exists when we have 2FA switched on and we use i.e. Authenticater

Authenticator generates 6 digit codes in 30s periods but when we try to fill the code which will expire soon (3s or less) and the last digit is fill to messanger prompt 10 sekunds after the validity period for 6-digit code, application will try verify the code but after few sekunds will log off to login password screen and then filling even true login password (i.e. from password manager) will gives "Invalide login or password"

The only solution is a factory reset of iPad - uninstall and install messanger won't help.

Also login to Facebook app on iPad will gives the same error then.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about issues with the Facebook app, and the password for the account.


The only option is to manually type in the password and see if it's an issue with the saved password, or the way it was typed in.


It may have also been locked if there was an account issue, meaning a reset would be required. Since this is with the account password in a third-party app, please contact Facebook for help resetting the password. Once reset, the new one should work. If not, contact Facebook for help with their app: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Since you're not having the issue with other devices, you may be right about it being something with the app. The steps on this page may help, especially Step 4, when you get down to it.

Hello Eric,


Thanks for the suggestions, but we've already tried entering the password manually – numerous times – and there isn't an account issue as it can be accessed via other devices. The only conclusion I can come to is that there's a bug in the app, which, judging by the appalling reviews of it on App Store, seems quite likely. I will, as you suggest, try to contact the developer, but I don't hold out much hope of a reply.
