Hi lobster, No way! The phone does an update , not the car! Apple should apply not mercedes!!
The problem here can be in the infotainment system, or in the iPhone, or in iOS, or in the connection, among other possibilities.
If you have used a cable to connect to the infotainment system here and not Bluetooth, you will have already replaced that and ruled it out as an issue.
If not the cable, the next step is to check for infotainment system firmware updates, and for iOS updates. This usually resolves the known issues that can arise with the two immensely complicated computers operating on each end of the connection—the infotainment system, and your iPhone.
If the problems persist, contact the car manufacturer, as they are best positioned to troubleshoot this. If the problem is with iOS, the car manufacturer is best positioned to work directly with Apple to resolve this, or (potentially) to make changes to the infotainment system to work around the issues.
Even if this is an issue with the iPhone and iOS, it’s not an endemic issue with CarPlay. And if this is iOS at fault and not some oddity specific to the manufacturer’s infotainment system, it’s something that will necessarily involve both the infotainment system maintainers and Apple CarPlay maintainers to resolve, and possibly other parts of both organizations.
Could this issue be caused by the iOS update? Sure. But is the flaw in the Apple code, or in the infotainment firmware, or has (for instance) some Bluetooth giblet on either end of the connection that picked this moment to fail?
In short… Contact the infotainment system vendor. That’s usually here vehicle manufacturer. They’re best positioned to resolve this directly m or to work with Apple to resolve this. They’re also best positioned to know if and where there are issues with CarPlay; whether those are nascent, already acknowledged via TSB, or otherwise.
My BMW has no listing for my phone. It’s like there was never a phone paired with my vehicle.
My BMW doesn’t show up on the iPhone Bluetooth list.
No.
No. It was not required in my 8 before I updated to 16.5.1. Never used Siri before…
'22 Honda Accord Stopped working. Fix? Update? Crickets?
My 2019 murano has not been playing CarPlay since updating my 14 os . I am highly annoyed since I payed for a car with this feature and yet again Apple has decided to jack things up
Me too
iPhone 6s
iPhone 6s Plus works in my fiat 500 , steering wheel controls Spotify all perfect
switch for iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 16 no work deffo iOS
In case Apple is tracking this, I am having the same trouble in my Hyundai Ioniq 5.
I totally agree with you! Despite all the apple geeks that say that this is car manufacturer issue!
Same here .. iPhone 11 16.6.1 update and dodge grand caravan not doing car play
By the way, this is much less traumatic than resetting everything, and it seems to resync the network specifically. If you have already reset your navigation system, this should do the trick.
After ios18 beats updated, I lost phone, messaging, google maps and Waze on my CarPlay screen 😭

In my case it isn’t the car….. my old iPhone still works perfect…. New one on latest IOS doesnt
Verify the infotainment firmware is current, and then contact Mercedes Benz. Again, even assuming this is an Apple issue — which is not certain — Mercedes Benz is still in the best position to isolate and identify what happened here, and to then work with Apple toward resolution.
