Migration Assistant stuck on "Looking for Source"
I'm using migration assistant to set up a new MacBook but migration assistant cannot find the external drive with the old mac's time machine backup--it just keeps "looking for source".

I formatted a Western Digital disc drive using disc utility. I’ve been using it for Time Machine backups on my old MacBook Pro. When connected to my new MacBook Pro, it appears on the screen as a normal disc icon, not a Time Machine icon. When I choose it for the Time Machine backup disk on the new computer, it changes to a time machine icon. So it’s obviously being connected, but Migration Assist is unable to find it as a source. “Searching for Source” just keeps spinning.
Hi,
I just wonder if your MacBook Pro detects the external drive, how to format the drive when you did use it as Time Machine drive.
Are you trying to do this via your local network?
the setup you are describing is usually the MOST successful.
I suggest you start over and make absolutely certain you told it you want to use a Backup disk, directly connected.
