Assistive Touch home button on my mom’s iPhone SE comes on randomly, won’t go away no matter what!

My mom’s iPhone SE will not let us turn off the on-screen assistive home button permanently. It keeps popping up, after a complete wipe and re-install. We turn it off Assistive Touch in the Settings/Accessibility/Touch panel, and make sure all of the assistive shortcuts are off, and it just keeps popping back up after a minute or two. I also just installed the latest upgrade before the wipe and re-install. No luck. It’s still doing it. It even disables the actual home button.

Now, before someone comes on here and says “it’s because your battery is less than 90%,” I’m walking around with an 8 Plus at 73% and it doesn’t happen to me. Someone on here had the same problem with a brand-new battery at 100%. Lots of people walkin’ around with 80% batteries that don’t have this problem.

It has to be a software glitch that Apple doesn’t want to bother fixing.

Since I got this refurbished phone for her in March from eBay with the Square Trade protection, I’ve got the go-ahead to take it in for repairs and will get reimbursed 100%. I will report back with any actual, useful information I get.

My Point Being:

Take this as a learning experience. Get the most recent models, and buy it directly Apple. And keep away from eBay for expensive devices. Apple gives you a free one-year, out-of-the-box, limited-warranty --Square Trade makes you pay for all the service.

Purchase this From Apple:

Seems you were sold a defective item. All another reason to purchase an Apple Device from Apple. In the meantime, you'll have to go through Square Trade. You might want to contact eBay, seeing if the seller can be held accountable, and if you can get your money back.

"It was $133. How much is that brand-new Apple phone gonna cost me? You know my mom’s 80 years old, and just wanted a phone as similar as possible to her old SE. right? What phone do they sell now that’s smaller with a real home button for under $200? Tell me and I’ll buy it."

Go Simply with a Flip Phone:

Quite frankly, if a smartphone is of concern, then just get her a flip phone. Does she really need all of the extras on the screen. Having an iPhone doesn't make you special or anything.

Oh, and Square Trade for a year with this refurbished phone was FREE and they have agreed to reimburse whatever repairs I need to make it right. I don’t know if they can fix it, but I’m going to take it to a local repair place that I have used before. Like I said originally, because of the general UNHELPFUL responses on this forum, when I get some answers, I will post them here, as a service to people in the same situation. And it won’t cost me anything. The phone works fine, other than that weird assistive button glitch, so, if my mom doesn’t want it, I will give it to someone who needs a phone. I have had very good luck buying used Apple products on eBay for over twenty years now, so I will definitely keep doing it rather than paying for something that depreciates by about 20% when you drive it off the lot.
