Is there a way to keep junk mail from downloading from the server?

Lately I've been getting a ridiculous amount of junk mail.

I am sick of blocking contacts and deleting them one by one.

One is ***

The 'info' part is always the same, as is the '.irkaspersky.com'. Everything else changes.

I am also getting them from ***

Again, 'info' stays the same, as does 'thermonix.com'.

I would love to prevent them from even being downloaded.

Is there a way to do that?

Or even set it up so everything that comes through with those commonalities is blocked, thereby allowing me to delete at will.

I really appreciate any insight.

Thanks kindly.

Client side filtering once it reaches your computer...

Server side filters depending on your email provider— you can log in through a browser and make some changes to Spam filters there.

One of the best piece of software I ever invested in was third party spam filter...SpamSieve

If Junk mail is not working for you as expected you can turn it off in Mail>Settings.

You have the option of installing a third party spam filter. ex.

It’s been the same issue for me. Just an onslaught of junk emails. Blocking the address doesn’t work because each new email comes from a slightly different address. I think they’re using a tracker to see if your computer downloaded or opened the email, because even clicking on them to delete or block them seems to result in more emails.

What’s more, Apple mail’s rules aren’t working to apply automatically on my computer.

what I have found to be effective is not touching junk mail at all on my phone, only opening the junk folder on my computer, and selecting all emails in it and right clicking/selecting “apply rules.”

I’ve set up about 20 rules for all the random email address bases that I get them from, like thermomix and irkasperky. So when I hit apply rules, it deletes them cleanly as if I never touched them.

But it’s really frustrating that these rules aren’t working automatically, and that I can’t create or manage them on my phone. I still get these insane junk emails, but now it’s down to 5-10 a day rather than 100-200.

I am having the exact same problem and found an article on Lifewire.com titled "How to Block email addresses in MacOS mail". You can probably search the article and easily find it. It seemed to have a good solution by using the Rules tab under mail preferences. It has you create a new rule and allowed me to choose to block mail from a sender "that ends in", this is where I entered the irkaspersky.com. Hope this will work for both of us!

Edit: I did a little searching and it looks like irkaspersky.com is a website registered in Iran

That’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately, that doesn’t filter them. I don’t have the option of “If a message contains” then do “xyz”.

The sender makes just enough changes to their address to get through.

These emails always look like “info.(some # that always changes)@(ever changing #).(name that stays the same).com”.

I’ve yet to find a way to block based on the name that doesn’t change.

I just deleted 18 more. It’s ludicrous.

Thanks for your suggestion.

As I stated in my reply, there is an ever-changing number before the consistent name that is a part of the domain name.

I would be going through the same thing: blocking each one individually.

It is always @(ever-changing number).(same name).com.

Does that make sense?

For example (and Apple might edit thinking it’s a privacy violation):

info.1234@1234.mydogrules.com.

The number sequences are different every time. I need to block the “mydogrules” part.

So, which is it ?

Jun 16, 2023 3:27 PM in response to Owl-53

I've been getting the SAME emails from the same addresses. It's been awful. I get more than 100 junk emails every day. I have mail rules to filter/delete them from junk, but the rules don't apply properly.

I long for a solution to this.

You can't hit unsubscribe because they will just start sending more and from other email addresses. It seems like there's no way to just auto delete them without them loading some of the content.
