Hi,

I suppose your MacBook Pro has hardware related issue. Try to check your MacBook Pro with Apple Diagnostics if it reports graphic related error.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If it doesn't help or error is reported, you'd better take your MacBook Pro to your local retail AppleStore, Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined your MacBook Pro there.

This is well-known issue to me; I have included a detailed steps and tried different solutions, and it looks a bug in VenturaOS - MacBook Pro 2017 Models but with connected external display:

Based on personal experience...

About a Flickering Mac Screen:

A. Your Screen is Failing:

I have come across this on my 2017 Mac. The connector between the LogicBoardand the screen when loose, and I had to send it in for service 11 times. Being during COVID, I had to send this in. Today, the option to take this in for service is an option. So take this in for service, ASAP.

B. To Get this Mac Serviced...

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area.

A. Contact Apple:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as Necessary
  • NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, calls are taking a bit linger to get through. And, that makes sense, because many are at home working out-of-the-house or are taking classes over-the-web, this they have more time on their hands to contact Apple Support. So, it might take a bit to get through to Apple Support. But, just stay on the line, and someone will be with you.

Or...

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac

Thank you for the photo.

Why the Charge?:

Your device is 6 years old; it's not yet obsolete. When it gets 7 or 8 years old, Apple stops providing updates, and incompatibility begins. So, in 2024, expect there to be no updates available for your Mac.

Were it something new and/or covered under AppleCare+, then Apple may not charge you, if found to be faulty. But, that's Apple's call. These are just user-to-user forums. We are just everyday Apple users like yourself. No one here has any say in prices.

My 2017 MBP:

I had this issue in 2018 on my former 2017 MacBook Pro. I had to send it in 11 times to Apple for service. Turns out, it was the connector between the LogicBoard and the screen, giving me all the issues. It was just loose. So, take this to an AASP to get it serviced.
