In what way is it the editing not working as expected? We need some background information to be able to understand what is happening on your Mac.

You should be able to edit all photos you imported to your Photos Library. But there are some exceptions.

  • Photos has to be able to access the photos:
    • If you are using iCloud Photos, Photos has to be able to download the originals from iCloud. iIs your iCloud working as expected?
    • If you have not been allowing to copy the photos into the library, but kept them in the original location outside the library, you have to ensure that these files are there and never get moved.
    • The library must not have become damaged and must be on a supported drive, if you are not keeping it in your Pictures folder. Where is your Photos Library? Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support
  • The photos must be in a format, that can be edited. if your Photos Library has been created from an older iPhoto or Aperture Library, you will have to revert any photo edited in the older app to the original, before you can add further adjustments. And image files or videos using a codec, that is no longer supported in Monterey have to be converted to a more compatible format. About legacy media in iMovie for macOS - Apple Support

Does any of this apply? The library can get damaged by allowing third-party duplicate finders to access it directly, or by keeping the library on an incompatible external volume or in a synced folder (dropbox, Google Drive) or accessing it over the local network.

Please read the following user tip and restate your question/problem in detail

Writing an Effective Apple Support Communities Question - Apple Community

Why type of editing are you trying?

What happens when you try?

Where is your library located? If on an external drive how is the drive formatted and connected to your Mac?

Are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?
