iPod Nano - 7th generation - Mac OS Ventura no longer can connect

With the latest 13.4 edition of Ventura, I can no longer connect my iPod Nano, 7th generation device. Plugging into my M2 2022 MacBook Air, the iPod is nowhere to be seen. It doesn't appear in the finder or in Disk Utility app. So forget trying to sync with my mac.

Is my favorite music device no longer any good? Sorry, but I find using my iPhone or the iPod Touch way too large to take running, etc.

I have the same issue also with Nanos 7 Gen but with Mac OS X 14.0: the Nanos are detected but do not open in Finder, it is therefore impossible to upload anything. There is nothing wrong with these units as they open just fine on a machine running Mac OS X 12.7. Does anyone have a solution for this? Running two iMacs just to operate iPods is a stetch.

Hey David Estes,

Sounds like you're unable to see your iPod nano when connecting to your Mac running macOS Ventura. We'd be happy to help out.

Your iPod nano, assuming it has no hardware issues, should still be able to be used. If having issues with device recognition though, we'd suggest working through the following steps, as they're best equipped to assist with this behavior:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad
When your device is turned on and connected to your computer, it should appear in the Finder or iTunes. If you don't see it, or you get an unknown error or 0xE error, follow these steps.

1. Look in the Finder or iTunes
On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, look for your device in the sidebar of any window in the Finder.*
On a Mac with an earlier version of macOS, look for your device in iTunes.
On a PC with iTunes for Windows, look for your device in iTunes.

2. Update the software on all devices

On your PC you might also need to update iTunes and update drivers.

3. Connect your device directly to your computer
Make sure that your device is unlocked and showing its Home Screen, then use a USB cable to connect it directly to your computer. Don't connect to a USB hub, display, or other device.

If that doesn't help, disconnect your device and all other USB devices and accessories from your computer. Then reconnect only your device.

4. Trust your computer, if asked
If you see a “Trust this Computer?” alert on your device when you plug it into your computer, tap Trust.

5. Allow the accessory to connect
When connecting your device to a Mac laptop computer with Apple silicon, your Mac might ask whether you want to allow this accessory to connect. If so, allow it to connect.

6. Restart your devices
Restart your iPhone

7. Try a different port, cable, or computer
The issue could be related to your computer, its USB port, or the USB cable connecting it to your device. If possible, try a different computer, USB port, or USB cable. Also check for any debris in the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone or iPad.

8. Contact us
If your computer still doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad, contact Apple Support.

As it states above if the issue persists, please contact Apple Support using the link above.

Take care!
