The iPhone supports several image formats for photos and you cannot change that.

Here are the commonly used formats on iPhone:

  1. JPEG (or JPG): This is the most common image format used for photos on the iPhone. JPEG files offer good image quality while maintaining a reasonable file size. It's the default format for photos taken with the iPhone camera.
  2. HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format): Starting from iOS 11, Apple introduced HEIF as the default format for photos on newer iPhone models. HEIF files provide better compression and image quality compared to JPEG, resulting in smaller file sizes. HEIF images have the .heic file extension.
  3. PNG (Portable Network Graphics): PNG is a lossless image format that supports transparent backgrounds. It is commonly used for graphics, screenshots, and images that require high-quality details. However, PNG files tend to have larger file sizes compared to JPEG or HEIF.
  4. GIF (Graphics Interchange Format): GIF is a popular format for animated images or short video clips. It supports animation and transparency, making it suitable for creating simple animations or sharing memes.
  5. TIFF (Tagged Image File Format): TIFF is a high-quality, lossless image format commonly used for professional photography and graphic design. It supports multiple layers, transparency, and large color depths. However, TIFF files tend to be larger in size compared to other formats.

These are the main image formats supported by iPhones. Depending on your iPhone model and the iOS version you are using, you may encounter additional image formats or variations of the mentioned formats.
