Apple Battery

Hey All,

so I just replaced my battery with a genuine Apple battery and I’m still getting the unknown part message. I asked the seller how Apple gets around this and they said that they reprogram the battery. Does anyone know a way around this? I thought I wouldn’t get this message is I bought a genuine part. Thanks in advance.

A genuine Apple battery would not be sold to an individual directly. The battery would be included in a battery installation by the Apple Store or an authorized Apple Service shop.

The message that you see now on your phone will not go away until a correct battery is installed at the Apple Store or authorized Apple Service shop.....IF.....you can get Apple to look at the phone.

It's that simple. It's up to you to decide how you want to proceed.

You will continue to get this message until a genuine Apple battery is installed. Battery Health / Maximum Capacity settings are also likely not working correctly, if they are working at all.

You did not use a genuine Apple part if an unknown part message is displayed on the phone.

Unfortunately, even if you now take the phone to Apple, they may refuse to work on the phone because of tampering....... unauthorized parts by unauthorized persons.

Thanks, Bob. Glad to see everyone is denying its authenticity but would love to hear from an actual "genius" who has changed an Apple battery. Maybe they can explain.

No one from Apple is here or will respond to this thread. This is a user to user only forum and Apple doesn't actively participate here.

As Bob Timmons suggests, you'll need to take the phone to Apple, who will surely be able to see the phone has been tampered with.

Even if it's a genuine battery, which I'm not sure how you bought it, but since you opened your iPhone, Apple can refuse to offer service on it and they are the ones who must program it. You can contact Apple directly, but you need to tell them the truth about the history of this battery and how you managed to come into possession of it and how you yourself replaced it.

As mentioned above, I bought it used from an Apple reseller. Pics posted above to show authenticity. I’m not really concerned with going to Apple since this is my backup device. If I need service, I’ll just pop the old one back in. It’s not that hard of a process.

It may not be hard, but Apple will be able to tell the phone has been opened.

We've given enough advice here. It's up to you to decide how to proceed, should you want to proceed.
