Apple Watch battery drain after Update

I noticed my Apple Watch battery draining very quickly after updating it to 9.5.1. Anyone else? My battery usually lasts 2 days.

Most people are seeing better battery life after 9.5.1. Did you restart your watch, after updating it? If no, restart your watch. Then give it a couple days as after any OS update, your watch has to reindex all of its data, which depending on how much memory you're using, can take a couple days.

I did the restart. Twice. Nothing. Apple- are you on it? We’re pretty sure you are. You wear the same watches and download the same software and I am sure you are as frustrated as we are.

peace and love!

You're not speaking to anyone from Apple here. This is a user to user only forum and Apple doesn't actively participate, nor read these threads for content. As a user, I do wear the same watch and the same software and yet, I have absolutely no battery drain issues on my watch, nor my partners watch. This is not a universal issue. So, you need to determine what is causing this to happen to you. If Restarts didn't help, the next step is to erase your watch and set it up again.

Installing 9.5.2 didn't help me...

However, the battery drain is very variable from day to day. Surprisingly, a day where I used the "Workout" application a lot (paddling on a lake during a few hours) went very fine, whereas normally the GPS and so one use a lot of battery.

I begin to suspect that the problem is not with the watch itself, but in the communication with the iPhone (I didn't have the iPhone with me on the lake).

I'm on a Series 6 watch and I'm lucky to get 12-14 hours right now. Pre-9.5.1 I could go 30 hours.

I usually sleep with it on, get out of bed, work out for 45-60 minutes, charge while in the shower and be back at 100% battery when starting my work day.

Post-update I can not longer sleep with it on, charges overnight, do my workout, charge, be at 100% at 8 am. 7 hours later I'm under 40%.

After the update, the watch was restarted. Re-did all of the background app refresh settings so that it was a minimum of them active.

Hope Apple pushes a better update soon.

Ps: I'm using 9.5.1 and am having absolutely NO battery drain issues whatsoever. At a minimum, did you restart your watch after updating (something highly recommended after every OS update)?

My 44 mm series 6 GPS has the same issue after updating to 9.5.1. I tried everything, including force restart and un-/re-pair with my iPhone, more than three times. It didn’t work.

I updated my series 6 immediately when 9.5.2 was out, but it caused more issues. The screen started to flicker green and other random patterns. I repeated the steps many times and finally my series 6 turned into a black screen.

I sent it to Apple and they said it has a battery problem and wanted to charge me $80+tax to repair it.

I didn’t have any issue with my series 6 before and no physical damage at all. I feel frustrated that this expensive Apple Watch couldn’t last longer than 2y 8m. I decide not to repair it because I don’t know if it’s worth it.
