Why Apple weather app is inaccurate

The Apple weather app give a wrong and inaccurate information about the weather in my city. So I have to use a 3rd party app to get a right information. Hopefully the Apple company know about it and fix it in a next updates!

Yes, the Weather app is now entirely useless in obtaining a forecast. It can tell me what’s happening at the moment, but I can look out my window and see that. It will say it’s going to be sunny tomorrow when all of the other weather apps and our local TV news weather says it’s going to snow. Needless to say, it will snow. I’m now using The Weather Channel app, Yahoo Weather or Weather Bug. They all seem to give similar and more accurate forecasts. I’ve reported the issue to Apple but I’ve found them to be very unresponsive in the past.

It’s completely frustrating that the Apple weather data has become so unreliable, especially when Weather info is so integrated into Lock Screen, Apple Watch, etc. What’s the point of displaying useless info everywhere? Right now, Apple Weather says it’s 12 degrees warmer outside than all other weather apps (and yes I have Precise Location turned on). Yesterday, all other weather apps and local TV stations predicted heavy rains and storms overnight but Apple weather said just 10% chance for a single hour. Sure enough, we received several hours of heavy rain. What the heck does Apple do with its trillion dollar empire in Cupertino (another irritation is that they always default time zones based on that little town like it’s the center of the universe). I’d switch back to Google Pixel in a heartbeat if I could (but I’m stuck for now).

Palmer Alaska temperature posted on my iPhone 13 Pro Max IOS has been consistently 8° to 10° higher than actual temperature reported on other sources I’ve checked. A degree or two difference is expected but not 10°.

Review the data sources used to determine the weather in your location:

It may be one of these:

You can also use the Report an Issue option in the app to post your current weather conditions if it is not accurate:

I assume you have already reported the inaccuracy in the Weather app and I would suggest you continue to do that. The Weather channel is one source of information used by the app, but there are several others as well. Your phone is not a weather station and Apple is not a meteorologist, they simply rely on other sources that do specialize in that service and give that information to you based on your location. By reporting the inaccuracy, it may help them rely on a more accurate source for your region instead of the one that is currently being used. When reporting the inaccuracy Apple will then receive the information needed to make that decision without any data being linked to your Apple Account.

Also when viewing your location in the Maps app, make sure that it shows the correct location, so the data that is sent to them is accurate.

Perhaps to check further into the actual unit reporting temperatures

in vicinity of Palmer AK, may show additional sub-units as primary..

This occurs when airport or other official station is also present & worthy.

As a long term resident of Alaska with keen awareness of Wx reports and

also find these 'errors' as actual report centers; yet not necessarily nearest.

South of Anchorage the weather may feature major new seasonal mixes..

from Asia, Arctic Ocean, Bering Sea, north Pacific; old Tropical Typhoons.

The federal NWS AK Region site has great local team to process details.

While they also might be off some miles; as major forecast features shift.

From about 1960, I've seen & heard some odd yet correct forecasts here.

Most AK areas rarely make their own weather; as this region is hyperactive.

Here’s a substitute for Apple weather that’s free and highly accurate.

This is the Dallas forecast. Enter your location and then save the page to your Home Screen. You can get hyperlocal forecasts by using the map, and hour by hour graphs, which are super helpful for planning your day. Try it.

It is true that some features/services will not work in all regions. This is most likely due to local regulations and restrictions due to the region. It would benefit Apple that every service they provide would be available everywhere, but this is not always possible. The price for the iPhone is the same no matter what services are used or available. There is no discount to purchase the phone even if a service is available and the person does not want to use it. This would include:

  • Apple Music
  • Apple Cash due to banking regulations
  • Apple TV
  • Find My
  • Age restrictions vary by region
  • Apple News

The full list of services available by region is here.
