Mail client no longer recognizing Yahoo mail account on Catalina

I'm unable to use the mail client on my old MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) to get mail from Yahoo mail. I can log into Yahoo mail directly via a browser and it works fine. The error message says the client is unable to log in and try again later.

I suspect it has something to do with the fact this old macbook is on Catalina. I've tried to remove and add back the account on the mail client, but this didn't work either. Thoughts?

I already contacted Yahoo support who had me login via the web browser. Since I could login via the web browser with no problem, they pointed to the Mac mail client; which is hard to argue with if I can get in on other Apple devices and via the browser with no issue.

Contact them back and speak to someone higher up.

yahoo mail is notoriously bad, with 3rd party mail which is why they want you to use their app instead.
