Removing a fingerprint shouldn't make the Touch ID preference pane disappear.

Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally. Sometimes that will fix anomalies.

Really suggest the user refer back to suggestion from @Barney-15E and follow all the suggestions in the order that were presented.


The Touch ID sensor in the Touch ID Apple Keyboard must communicate with the Computer.


If the Keyboard is not communicating with the Computer - the Touch ID in System Setting may disappear only to re-appear once the communicated is re-established.


Re-Installing the Operating System may not be required

Thank you. I followed the procedure you recommended, and the preference pane did open, but the Touch ID portion is still missing.

I did something stupid last week. My fingerprint wasn't working, so I went into this preference pane and deleted fingerprint #1. There was a dialogue box that says deleting this would be permanent, but I thought that applied only to fingerprint#1, but I see now is applies to all fingerprints and deletes Touch ID as an option.
