Yesterday, this red dot appeared on my iPhone (14 Pro Max). I've heard all kinds of theories about it - it's the mic, it's the camera - but no definitive answer. I rebooted the phone and it's gone.
Does anyone actually know what this is, without speculating? Has this phone been hacked? Or is it some other app that was using some service?

It is the icon for Screen Recording. Tap it in the island and you'll be able to turn it off.
I had the same circle on my 15 Pro after I was trying to get a cast to TV app working. Reboot worked.
I use the voice feature, but to call Siri by another name. Using this or another voice shortcut, the red dot stays on. It SHOULD NOT BE ON. This seems like a bug in the 18 OS.
The red dot is just to say that your previous screen recording didn’t work, so you have to screen record again for it to detect that your screen recording does in fact work. Hope this helped you! :3

It means you have unread notifications. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see them.
omg this just happened to me like 3 minutes ago & i had the same feeling when i checked if i was screen recording & saw that i wasn’t. I left my phone charging and when i came back i saw it, i got creeped out. then i googled it and ended up here 😭
