My wife just bought a new iPhone 13 a week ago, ringtone is hard to hear even ringtone sound and haptics is set to the loudest setting. Notification sounds r louder than ringtone. Why? Is the iPhone defective or just a software issue?

Problem: iPhone rings very quietly.

Checked attention aware, it was off.

The ping for SMS and other notifications is really loud whilst the phone rings very quietly. I can usually hear it in the next room, now it’s so quiet I don’t notice it ringing when it’s in front of me.

I’ve tried restarting.

I’m on iOS 17.2.1 and all the sliders and buttons are set to their loudest setting.

help!!!

I have the same problem with my iPhone 13 pro.

On the loudest settings, awareness features turned off, the ringtone and calendar alerts are barely noticeable.

It is like the volume is set to “almost silent”.

Missing phone calls all the time.

Also, I can barely hear the other person. Most of the time, I have to guess every second word!

Very annoying. Especially around Android users, entertaining the whole room with their loud TikTok views. Sometimes I can’t hear my videos playing, because of their volume.

Apple, please fix this!

or is this another feature, like the decreased battery capacity “feature”, back then?

Hello Cherub7171,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with the volume of ringtones on iPhone. Have you tried restarting your iPhone? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 16.5.1? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Then update your iOS as outlined here:  Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Attention aware needs turning OFF in face id a passcode’s this will fix your issue providing you have already done the system haptics & sounds first, set change with button to ON slide the ringer volume put it up to max then turn off attention aware in face id & passcode’s as an extra tip clean out the speaker outlets either side of the charge port i use a toothbrush so it doesn’t damage the speakers.

Hi All - this was driving me crazy as well. What worked for me is doing all the setting changes noted in this community string, along with settings - sounds & haptics - silent mode OFF, then I went into the contacts and played the music ringtone for each of my favorites, as the music was playing I turned the volume up and that seemed to do the trick! Thanks to everyone for their input, I think the combination of all worked for me.
