Why does my Apple TV back up to iCloud?

I’m not sure why my Apple TV backs up to iCloud. Does it have to back-up? What happens if I delete the back-up? Are all my purchases wiped out and never retrievable again?

That just lists devices that are logged in to your Apple ID. It does not in any way indicate the are backing up to iCloud at all.

To see actual backups, tap on iCloud there, then on iCloud Backup, and it will list the actual devices that are backing up to iCloud.

Apple TV boxes don’t backup to iCloud at all.

Where are you seeing this backup exactly?

That indicates that you have your Apple ID logged into an Apple TV. All of those devices are on your account.
