AirPods Pro 2 no Sound with Samsung TV

Hi,

I have a new pair of Airpod Pro Gen 2 and can't get them to correctly connect to my Samsung Frame TV or other Samsung Tv's I have. They will pair correctly and I will have audio until I change say from Newtflix to Prime then I will lose the audio. The TV says that the Airpods are still connected and the control on the Airpods still work. I, after switching from Netflix to Prime and I disconnect and reconnect I'll get the sound back. If I'm watching a series that loads the next episode I will lose the connection. Also I had named my new Airpods but they show up in the Samsung bluetooth list with Find My appended to the name even though that is not in the name that I named them. My old Airpods connect and play sound flawlessly. So what's the solution to this problem? Thanks.

Apple told me the solution. Return them. I received a full money back. They have no fix for the Samsung TV problem.

** TEMPORARY SOLUTION MAY 2024 **

1) connect AirPods Pro 2 to iPhone

2) open Roku app on phone > tap remote (bottom middle) > tap headphones icon (bottom right)

3) select Roku from input menu on Samsung tv

4) open Netflix/Hulu/Prime **from Roku**

5) play your shows

Pausing content and switching between apps (Netflix to YouTube, Hulu, etc) on the Roku does not seem to affect connection.

Hi there Paul-NBPT,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're having an issue connecting your AirPods Pro to your Samsung TV. We can help.

We recommend ensuring the firmware of the AirPods Pro is up-to-date. Do you have an "iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 16 or later; an iPad with iPadOS 16.1 or later; an Apple Watch with watchOS 9 or later; an Apple TV with tvOS 16 or later; or a Mac with macOS Ventura."? This is needed to update the firmware:

Under "Software requirements" of the article you linked from: If your AirPods won't connect - Apple Support

Other than that, we recommend following the steps in the Apple Support article here: Set up AirPods with your Mac and other Bluetooth devices - Apple Support

That should help. Let us know how it goes.

Take care.

Bill,

I spent an hour on the phone going through all their trouble shooting requirements to no avail. My problem with them is not just switching between Prime and Netflix but whenever it switches between episodes whether on Prime or Netflix. I spent considerable amount of time with Samsung support. I went through all their trouble shooting suggestions to no avail. They had me check the version of software on my TV which said it was up to date. I was told there was a later version that needed to be downloaded via USB and installed manually even though my TV said it was up to date. I've downloaded the software but have not installed yet. I'll pass along what happens after I get a chance to install. I'm not having problems with any of the other Bluetooth devices that I connect to my Samsung just these new Air Pods. I've not heard anything from Apple as to a solution since this seems to be a more common problem than I first thought. I'd think that Apple might have a suggestion since their last version of their Air Pods worked seamlessly.

Here's a fix that worked for me after trying everything else. I have a Hisense 70" TV with a Google Chromecast and Apple Airpods Pro Gen 2.

On the Chromecast settings menu (accessed by clicking on the cog in the Chromecast main page), there is a menu item for Bluetooth. I disconnected the Airpods from the TV's Bluetooth and paired them to the Bluetooth of the Chromecast and 'Hey Presto', I instantly had sound on the TV. Under Background below I have detailed how I got to this fix.

I hope this helps someone else.

BACKGROUND

CHOPPY SOUND: After almost a year of choppy sound issues, Apple replaced my Airpods with the most current version with the latest firmware. I'd previously tried every fix online to get rid of the choppy sound but nothing worked. I took them back to the place I purchased them (not Apple direct). They sent them away for testing and came back saying there was nothing wrong with them.

As the warranty was running out, I recorded videos of the Airpods with the choppy sound by holding the Airpods near my phone's microphone. I took them in to an Apple store and told them I had an intermittent sound fault and that I had multiple videos showing the sound quality. They told me they could check for intermittent faults and took them away to do their testing. I waited around 45 minutes for them to do that. The Apple rep came back and told me they'd been able to generate faults with their testing and they replaced both Airpods.

Since getting them two days ago, I have not had a single instance of the awful choppy, squelchy sound that affected my old pair.

NO SOUND ON TV:

First time I paired and connected to my TV they came up as "My Airpods Pro" and worked perfectly. After returning them to the case to recharge, they were connecting to the TV but there was no sound coming out of them other than the initial blip to let me know they were connected.

I tested them with my iPhone and iPad and they worked fine. I turned off Bluetooth on all my devices to make sure nothing else was hijacking the connection but I still couldn't get audio out of the TV. I also noticed that they were now coming up as "My Airpods Pro - Find My" which is how my old ones came up, although there is nowhere in my Airpod settings that I named them like that.

I had them connected to the TV using the TV's Bluetooth menu. I spent hours trying every suggested fix I could find including making sure my firmware was up to date, setting volume using the Airpods themselves, and attempting to use them with every audio profile the TV has. I also reset both the TV and the Airpods to factory defaults, all to no avail.

I finally decided to check out the Chromecast menu to see if there were any sound settings there that might be affecting the Airpods. I changed everything that might be relevant on that and also reset that to factory settings. Still no sound. I then noticed the Bluetooth menu option under the cog, and decided to connect to that and see what happened. As soon as I did that, I had sound.

I unpaired them completely from the TV and tested the fix by putting them in the case and taking them out and by turning off power to TV and Chromecast. Apart from one instance where I had to go into the Chromecast Bluetooth menu and manually connect them, they are still working perfectly and giving me audio from the TV.

In the Chromecast's Bluetooth menu there is a function to rename my Airpods. I renamed them "My Airpods Pro" but they are still coming up with "Find My" in their name.

The issue I have is with a Frame and new AirPods. Old AirPods worked great zero issues. Bought new Airpods and they will disconnect after pressing 2-3 remote functions. Only solution I’ve found is to click the settings button, go to Sound Output (yes it still says connected to my AirPods) and just cycle through Receiver, TV, Aipods until I hear them ding again. From there, it’s a 50/50 chance I can press the back button and play/pause button without them disconnecting again.

Me too, I phoned Apple and tried explaining to them that my AirPod Pro version ones had no problem, connecting to the Samsung frame TV, and they said I could take them in to get tested; and I did take them in to get tested, and the test said nothing was wrong with the Bluetooth. Apple support told me that it was a problem with the Samsung Bluetooth. However, I didn’t have a problem with the AirPod Pro version ones. I was quite upset as I had spent so much money on the version two and there is a no return policy on AirPods because they go in your ear. I was a little demoralized and I’m waiting to recontact Apple support regarding this issue. It must be a problem with the Bluetooth hardware or software on the new AirPod pros because I didn’t have this problem with the AirPod Pro ones I use my AirPod Pro ones now when I watch TV

Matthew,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my note. I've tried what you suggested and I do have the latest firmware in my air pods. Like I said I can connect to the Samsun TV just fine and get audio after the connection for the provider but if I switch from say Netflix to Prime I lose the audio but the Samsung TV says all is well with the connection. In order to get the sound again I have to disconnect and then reconnect the air pods. It will also disconnect if the show that you're watching automatically starts the next show in the series. My old air pods don't have the problem and work perfectly as expected. My wife's "other" headphones connect flawlessly and don't exhibit any of these problems just my new air pod gen 2's. The work fine on my iPad, iPhone and laptop. I've since discovered that others have had the same problem. Hoping there is a fix out there. Disappointed that my old one's work and these don't.

Regards,

Paul

Bill,

Thanks for the advice. I also checked that I had the latest version of their software running and I do. I'm thinking that this is probably one of those problems that requires a discussion between Apple & Samsung to find the common issue. As I said my last gen air pods work flawlessly and my wife's "other brand" headphones work flawlessly. I'll post back with what/if I find out anything from Samsung after I call them tomorrow. Thanks for the advice and I'll see what Samsung has to say.

I am having the same issue with brand new AirPods Gen 2. I have 3 Samsung TVs. One was purchased over 5 years ago. The other 2 at my ranch are relatively new. I contacted Apple support. The consultant was clueless. Apparently, she did not check their own support forum or worse knew it was an issue she could not fix.

Even after changing the Samsung audio setting to CPM, the symptoms I am getting seems to be very similar - the AirPods pair easily, the TV settings graphic shows the audio signal bouncing along like there is sound, but no sounds. After repeated pairing resets, I finally get sound. But if I try to fast forward thru video intro crap I lose sound.

Prior to switching the Samsung audio output to CPM when I got sound after multiple repairing it sounded like there was some sort of alternate audio in addition to the main audio channel, but it was clipping. Very annoying.

I had my AirPods Gen 1 device for 4 years. None of these issues on any of the TVs. I find it hard to believe that Apple did not test with Samsung TVs. Samsung is a best selling brand. It looks like this issue has existing since the Gen 2's were introduced.
