Here's a fix that worked for me after trying everything else. I have a Hisense 70" TV with a Google Chromecast and Apple Airpods Pro Gen 2.
On the Chromecast settings menu (accessed by clicking on the cog in the Chromecast main page), there is a menu item for Bluetooth. I disconnected the Airpods from the TV's Bluetooth and paired them to the Bluetooth of the Chromecast and 'Hey Presto', I instantly had sound on the TV. Under Background below I have detailed how I got to this fix.
I hope this helps someone else.
BACKGROUND
CHOPPY SOUND: After almost a year of choppy sound issues, Apple replaced my Airpods with the most current version with the latest firmware. I'd previously tried every fix online to get rid of the choppy sound but nothing worked. I took them back to the place I purchased them (not Apple direct). They sent them away for testing and came back saying there was nothing wrong with them.
As the warranty was running out, I recorded videos of the Airpods with the choppy sound by holding the Airpods near my phone's microphone. I took them in to an Apple store and told them I had an intermittent sound fault and that I had multiple videos showing the sound quality. They told me they could check for intermittent faults and took them away to do their testing. I waited around 45 minutes for them to do that. The Apple rep came back and told me they'd been able to generate faults with their testing and they replaced both Airpods.
Since getting them two days ago, I have not had a single instance of the awful choppy, squelchy sound that affected my old pair.
NO SOUND ON TV:
First time I paired and connected to my TV they came up as "My Airpods Pro" and worked perfectly. After returning them to the case to recharge, they were connecting to the TV but there was no sound coming out of them other than the initial blip to let me know they were connected.
I tested them with my iPhone and iPad and they worked fine. I turned off Bluetooth on all my devices to make sure nothing else was hijacking the connection but I still couldn't get audio out of the TV. I also noticed that they were now coming up as "My Airpods Pro - Find My" which is how my old ones came up, although there is nowhere in my Airpod settings that I named them like that.
I had them connected to the TV using the TV's Bluetooth menu. I spent hours trying every suggested fix I could find including making sure my firmware was up to date, setting volume using the Airpods themselves, and attempting to use them with every audio profile the TV has. I also reset both the TV and the Airpods to factory defaults, all to no avail.
I finally decided to check out the Chromecast menu to see if there were any sound settings there that might be affecting the Airpods. I changed everything that might be relevant on that and also reset that to factory settings. Still no sound. I then noticed the Bluetooth menu option under the cog, and decided to connect to that and see what happened. As soon as I did that, I had sound.
I unpaired them completely from the TV and tested the fix by putting them in the case and taking them out and by turning off power to TV and Chromecast. Apart from one instance where I had to go into the Chromecast Bluetooth menu and manually connect them, they are still working perfectly and giving me audio from the TV.
In the Chromecast's Bluetooth menu there is a function to rename my Airpods. I renamed them "My Airpods Pro" but they are still coming up with "Find My" in their name.
