I prefer Monterey for now, but have a new MacBookPro 16" with a clean Ventura install. If one users a bootable Monterey installer in the C-port, will it not only install Monterey, but will it change the recovery partition from Ventura to Monterey?

In that case, if you erase the drive and use a Monterey bootable installer, it should replace Recovery.
YES! I did use a bootable M installer on a V/V MBP16 and it changed the two partitions to Monterey. Very nice.
If your Mac shipped with Ventura you cannot downgrade.
It’s not possible to install a version of macOS that is older than what your Mac shipped with.
Thank you. Qualification/clarification. The MBP was born with Monterey, but the Apple repair people , despite my request to keep Monterey, installed Ventura.
Do you think that Ventura is substantially better than Monterey?
I would probably opt for Ventura on all my Macs if I could. However, I do like Monterey.
