Does the screen protector impact Face ID?

I finally upgraded and started using Face ID in March and found it worked very inconsistently. I went to the genius bar and they said my issue was because of my screen protector. I went back and confirmed that the screen protector I had bought was compatible with an iPhone 14. Should Face ID work if your screen protector covers the camera?

iPhone 14, iOS 16

It absolutely can effect the performance.

If you removed the screen protector and faceID works without issues it obviously was the screen protector.

Yes it can. I bought a new ipad 11 pro and it was hard to see which end was up with no button. I slapped on a screen protector with the notch close to the charging port like I had done with my old ipad with button, inadvertantly covering the camera with the screen protector. Unable to set up face id as it kept telling me to lower my camera, get my ugly mug inside the box, etc. Nothing worked, so I rotated the screen protector 180 degrees to where the protector notch was now opposite the charging port - no issues. That little notch on the protector is there for a reason;)
