Slow Boot After Password

Hi there,

I too have the same issue for a few days now.

Almost a minute to login after the password.

Many thanks in advance.

Having done what you have been suggested to by previous Contributor.

This appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

I was going to suggest booting up in Verbose mode to see where it hangs up, but I don't think that is possible with an Apple Silicon Mac.

You have a large number of system modifications trying to load at startup. That will take some time, especially if there is some conflict. Hard to determine that, though.

Did this start after a system update? It could be that one of those system modifications is not quite compatible and hanging the startup process.

Do you have FileVault enabled? It doesn't really boot up until you enter the FileVault password, then it does a full startup, then does a user account login for that user. It shouldn't take that long to startup, though.

Has it started up and you are just logging into an account, or is it the startup sequence that is slow? If it is logging into an account after having completed startup, it may be some conflict in the login items in that account.

I don't know if it still works, but holding down shift key when logging in would disable login items. You could do that to test if it is something in the login items (note that my use of "login items" includes things that are started by Launch Agents along with the Login Items in the System Settings).

Only after attempting the suggestion from @Barney15-E

Q -   Security updates disabled - Security updates are disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Q -   Apple security disabled - Apple security software is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

Q -   Security Updates: Disabled

Q -  Antivirus software: None!

A - User choice but would suggest otherwise and enable these builtin features of macOS

Q -   System extensions installed - This computer has system extensions installed. System extensions can be difficult to uninstall.

A - This could dovetail into the usage of SURFSHARK  which you say was removed. Though, it is not that easy to remove all the Bits and Pieces that were left behind. Added are the Extensions that were installed with this software.

Q -   Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. These files could be old, incompatible, and cause problems. They should be reviewed.

A - Self explanatory and worthy of the user to review

Q - System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background.

A - Either modifications imposed by the User or via Third Party Software, running a heavily modified version of macOS does and will have unintended consequences including what the computer is experiencing now

System Software:

Q -   macOS Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82)

A - Currently at version Ventura 13.4.1(c)

System Extensions:

Q -   [Running] Surfshark Antivirus - version 4.10.1 (SURFSHARK LTD - 2023-07-08)

    Application: /Applications/Surfshark.app - version 4.10.1 (Not found!)

Description: System Extension enables Surfshark app to provide antivirus features.

[Running] Surfshark. WireGuard - version 4.2.1 (SURFSHARK LTD - 2023-07-08)

    Application: /Applications/Surfshark.app - version 4.2.1 (Not found!)

Description: System Extension enables Surfshark app to connect using WireGuard protocol.

Q -   [Running] com.paceap.eden.licensed.plist (PACE Anti-Piracy, Inc. - installed 2023-06-23)

    Command: /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/licenseDaemon.app/Contents/MacOS/licenseDaemon --backurl

A - Have seen this software perviously and was never 100% sure what it is supposed to do. Perhaps if you enlighten us what is expected to do ?

 Q -    QuickLookPlugin - /Applications/Transmission.app

      com.bittorrent.torrent

      org.bittorrent.torrent *.torrent

A - Good vector to get Malware / Adware infected Software

Hi, I do have many software because it's a video and audio Studio, all legit.

I'm not sure why you think their legitimacy is important. System Modifications are rarely well-designed or maintained. OS updates may break them, and when you have multiple, they could break each other.

If there are launchd plists still installed that can't find their executables, they will continually try to start, fail, then restart. I don't know how much that will slow down startup, but it will continue ad infinitum.

Did you use the developer's uninstaller and it left those things behind?

My answers in caps lock and bold:

I NEED LOTS OF DIFFERENT SOFTWARES, MOSTLY AUDIO AND VIDEO PLUGINS THAT ARE ALL UP TO DATE AND VENTURA/SILICON COMPATIBLE.

SECURITY RELEASES ALREADY UPDATED.

Application: /Applications/Surfshark.app - version 4.2.1 (Not found!) - UNINSTALLED, EXTENSION IS THERE, CAN'T DELETE IN SAFE MODE ( I USE APPCLEANER AND EASYFIND FOR THE REMAINS)

Q -   [Running] com.paceap.eden.licensed.plist (PACE Anti-Piracy, Inc. - installed 2023-06-23) - THAT'S RELATED WITH PRO TOOLS, HAS TO HAVE IT, NEVER HAD ISSUES.

TRANSMISSION NEVER GETS USED, NO PIRACY SOFTWARE ON MY SYSTEM.

Hi, I do have many software because it's a video and audio Studio, all legit. No, this started before the last Ventura update. FireVault is off. I idid create another user account, fire vault also off to no avail.

It boots super fast, then after typing the password it sticks for a while. I tried safe mode and disable all visible login itens. Same, didn't work out.

I also uninstalled Surfshark but some extensions are there and I can't delete them even in safe mode.

I'm going to try the shift key login to see if it works.

Many thanks
