Touch ID not working after upgrading to Ventura 13.4.1

Just bought a new MacBook Air and everything worked perfectly. After updating to the OS to Ventura 13.4.1, my touch ID immediately stopped working. Can't add a new fingerprint or anything. Any advice?

MacBook Air, macOS 13.4

New MacBook Air —then can safely assume this your internal key board and it is an M1/M2 (and not an Intel Mac.)

On an M1/M2 you can try A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

login and test. reboot as normal and test.

The current stable release of Ventura including bug fixes,  security updates  is macOS Ventura 13.4.1c (22F770820d)

Hi leroydouglas, I appreciate your detailed response. Yes, it is an internal keyboard and I have an M2.

  • Went through Apple phone support and they were not able to resolve
  • Took my brand new MacBook Air into the Genius Bar at the Apple Store where I bought the Mac, and they were also not able to resolve.

They ended giving me an entirely new MacBook Air.

As an FYI, it does not appear that Ventura 13.4.1 (c) is a stable release. The staff at the store admitted to me that many issues are being reported after people install this version.

I have turned off automatic updates and will wait for some time before trying another OS update. There is no doubt my issue was caused by 13.4.1 (c) and I will avoid that release for sure!

Thanks.
