Touch ID stopped working completely on MacBook Pro M2

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with Touch ID on my MacBook Pro 2023 M2.

A few days ago Touch ID stopped working completely. I can’t add any new fingerprints, and the system simply does not respond when I try to register one.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Verified permissions and biometric configuration via Terminal
  • Checked biometrickitd logs (showing errors related to OpenDirectory UUID lookup)
  • Verified user UUID is present and correct
  • Performed a clean install of macOS via macOS Recovery (erased the disk, reinstalled Sequoia)
  • Verified that no biometric templates exist before trying to add a new fingerprint

Despite all of this, Touch ID still doesn’t work, and I always get the same result: no fingerprint can be added.

The command bioutil --count shows There are no biometric templates in the system, and logs consistently show this error: getUserUUIDsForUIDs: resultsAllowingPartial failed, err = Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=4200

I’m not using any MDM, and I’m on the only admin account on the machine.

Does anyone have any idea what else I can try, or is this likely a hardware issue?

Thanks in advance!
