Reduced JPEG size on export from Photos

I import a JPEG from my Fuji DSLR into Photos on my iMac and it’s 14MB. I crop just a little and tweak saturation etc then export as JPEG ( not unmodified option) and the file size has halved to 7MB. Colour space is RGB on original and Apple codec on exported version. Why is the file size so much smaller?

Probably because you chose to export at a lower quality.


In the Export dialogue you can choose the Jpeg quality. You can experiment among the options to find on that works for you.


That said, why would you need a larger Jpeg than that? What's the intended use?
