Every time I plug my iPhone 11 into my m2 macbook air, my computer starts loading slow, or usually just not at all. I use a usb to usb-c adapter to do this. Is there any reason my phone would slow down my computer? It happens *every* time i plug in my phone, and as soon as i unplug my phone, it starts loading normally again.

What's probably happening is your MBA is syncing everything from your phone.

This will explain what's being synced, as you may or may not want all of it synced.
Although I'm sure you have a reason for connecting your iPhone to your MBA, can you describe why it's necessary?
(Asking because I last plugged my iPhone into my Mac about 10 years ago...really have no need to anymore, what with iCloud backups and storage).
Some people (including me) plug out phones into our MBA to charge them.
